ABOUT ERIC WATSON ARCHITECT

Like many young architects interested in the New Urbanism Movement and eager to start their practice, Eric Watson opened his office in Seaside, Florida where a hands-on approach to the design and construction of a variety of buildings has fostered some of the best talent in the profession.  Since 1992, his practice has become well known for the distinctive houses he has designed within the Florida panhandle resort towns of Seaside, Rosemary Beach, Alys Beach, WaterColor, and WaterSound.

As a youth, Watson developed a fascination for architecture by drawing houses inspired by the traditional houses built in his neighborhood.  After receiving his Master of Architecture degree from the Yale School of Architecture in 1988, Watson apprenticed in the New York office of Johnson Wanzenberg.  He later worked in the office of Scott Merrill in Vero Beach, Florida, designing houses in Windsor, a Duany Plater-Zyberk designed New Urbanist Village in Vero Beach, Florida.  In 1992, he opened his office in Seaside, Florida.

Watson has been published in books, magazines, newspapers, journals, and has lectured on his work.  He is a 2004 and 2016 Palladio Award recipient, a 2016 Addison Mizner Award recipient, and a two-time Southern Home Award recipient.

Watson is a member of The American Institute of Architects, The Institute of Classical Architecture & Art, The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, and is a registered architect in Florida, New York, Georgia, and Texas.
